Joint and muscle complaints

The different types of pain

Muscle pain
Overloading and minor injuries, such as strains and sprains, are the most common causes of muscle hardening and pain. These arise during sports, through strong tension and also in stressful situations.

The symptoms can occur during exercise as well as at rest and usually subside by themselves after a few days.

Joint pain
The finger, knee and hip joints are most frequently affected by pain, stiffness and limited mobility.

However, complaints can also occur in the foot and wrist joints, shoulders and elbows.

The reasons for this can be injuries caused by incorrect movements or joint diseases (arthrosis, arthritis).

The older a person gets, the more likely it is that joint pain will occur. But overweight and overloading through physical work or intensive sports activities also affect joints.
